3LS Quality Management and Lean Six Sigma

The specialization of Quality Management and Lean Six Sigma offers students the opportunity to learn modern approaches for process improvement for manufacture and service operations. These approaches are Lean Management and Six Sigma together with the knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) under the framework of ISO 9001. Additionally, the specialisation also offers organisations the opportunity to improve their processes by providing students with internships in these fields.

The specialization prepares students for job positions in the field of Lean management, Six Sigma, QMS or their combination. The students are prepared to handle operations in manufacture facilities as well as in services.

The students acquire knowledge on terminology and principles Lean Management, Six Sigma and QMS. Moreover, the students actively learn to apply an extensive range of methods and techniques used in these approaches. The main characteristic of the campus sessions is interactive learning.

One of the main advantages of this specialisation is the internship under the name “Get involved with LSS students”. Every semester more than 20 students have the opportunity to improve real situations at the workplace. For this purpose, the specialisation collaborates with more than 30 organizations to offer students the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge. These organisations belong to the automobile industry, food industry, manufacture, but also to services such as payroll, HR or health services.

Graduate Profile

The successful graduate of our specialisation know an extensive set of methods and techniques from Lean Management, Six Sigma and QMS. They are able to apply them into specific real problems as isolated solution or combination of them. They are able to combine a large number of individual methods and techniques into a comprehensive form of QMS, Lean Management, Six Sigma, or Lean Six Sigma. This approach allows students to identify and solve the divergences, waste and variability in business processes.

Students gain practical experience in solving problems with Lean Management, Six Sigma and QMS based on completion of the internship.

Background

The specialization follows previous knowledge acquired at the undergraduate level studies. Primarily background is the knowledge in the field of statistics, business economics, economic framework, management, quality management, environment and security, operational management and team management.

Suggestions for choosing this specialization

The student selecting this specialisation should handle the basics of statistics, which are among the main instruments especially for Six Sigma approach. It is also recommended to have basic knowledge of management and operational management. The knowledge of operational management supports the development of the knowledge and skills in the field of Lean Management.

State exam for the specialization

The study of the specialisation finishes with a state exam of the following compulsory subjects. Students have the opportunity to develop their diploma thesis from the topics of the specialisation and the internship.

Get involved with LSS students

On the framework of the minor “Quality Management and Lean Six Sigma”, we offer organisations the opportunity to have on internship our students. They solve real workplace defined problems or opportunities for improvement. They used their acquired knowledge on Lean Management, Six Sigma and QMS. We search for organisations that are actively applying process improvement methodology of Lean, Six Sigma or Quality Management or wish to improve processes with these approaches.
