Department Structure
Areas of Expertise
The Department of Management connects research, teaching and collaboration with practice around three core managerial competencies: making good decisions, organising effectively and acting responsibly.
These are reflected in three interconnected areas of expertise. Each has its own research agenda and leadership, and each also develops teaching, doctoral education and collaboration with organisations.
| Area | Brief description | Area lead |
|---|---|---|
| Managerial Decision-Making, Data and AI | Making evidence-based decisions. We study how people and organisations make decisions and how the quality of their decisions can be improved through data, experimentation, critical thinking and artificial intelligence. The area covers in particular judgment and decision-making, evidence-based management, decision-making under uncertainty, cognitive biases, working with data and human–AI interaction. The area’s research base is Decision Lab Prague, which supports laboratory, online and field experimental research. |

| Organisational Design, Coordination and Resilience | Designing organisations that work. We study how to set up roles, processes, responsibilities and management systems so that organisations can coordinate the work of people and teams, deliver projects, manage change and function even in conditions of uncertainty and crisis, in both domestic and international contexts. The area links research on organisational design and management practices with project and process management, crisis management, organisational resilience and the management of multinational organisations. A specific field of application is the management of healthcare and other public and socially important services. |
Ing. Klára Vítečková, Ph.D., and Ing. Jana Valentová, Ph.D. |
| Ethical Management, Responsibility and Trust | Making decisions that are not only effective but also responsible. We study the conditions under which managerial conduct is trustworthy, responsible and legitimate. The area links behavioural and business ethics with research on trust, cooperation, power relations, conflicts of interest and moral hazard in organisations. We are interested not only in how people think about ethical problems, but above all in how they actually make decisions and act, and how the organisational environment encourages ethical or unethical behaviour. |
